Free Experian Credit Report
November 6th, 2007 by Shenron
In this day and age, you must spend some time on your credit history and obtaining a free Experian credit report is a good way to start. Many people have no idea what their credit history can do to them and if you do not ever look at your credit report, you will never know if someone has stolen your identity until it is too late. Viewing your credit report for these inaccuracies is very important so that you are not held accountable. You should know first of all that under federal law, you are entitled to a free credit report per year from one of the three credit report agencies which are Experian, Transunion, and Equifax. You can also obtain a free Experian credit report by subscribing to Experian’s services for only $12.95 per month. This is quite a value considering the long term costs of having someone steal your identity and use it for deceitful purposes.
To obtain the free Experian credit report that you are guaranteed under federal law, you will need to visit www.annualcreditreport.com. Here you will select your state of residence and then you’ll be directed to a page where you’ll need to give personal information such as name, address, social security number, etc. Once you have done that, you will need to select which credit reporting agencies you would like to generate your free report. When you select Experian, you’ll be directed to their site and your shopping cart. Your shopping cart will say “free” and then you’ll proceed from there. You can view your report then or you can choose to print your report so that you can analyze it and then dispute any false claims or just clean it up by closing unused accounts. Doing this will save you a huge headache in the future and also help to improve your credit score over the long haul.
The free Experian credit report that is available directly from Experian can be claimed by signing up for their Triple Advantage service. This service includes daily credit monitoring of all three credit reporting agencies, email alerts if there is a drastic change in your credit history, $25,000 identity theft insurance, fraud resolution services, and a 30-day free trail. In addition to these things you can view your credit report anytime you wish which helps keep you informed about your credit score. Also, when you sign up for the free Experian credit report and Triple Advantage, you will receive a credit score. Credit scores typically do not appear on the credit report and can range from 0-800. Zero is the worst credit score you could have and therefore obtaining the score is a vital piece of maintaining your credit. All of these services are not only vital to maintaining a good credit score but also in protecting yourself against identity theft. With that becoming such a big problem in America today, you have to keep your eye out for problems.
Having good credit is a vital piece of your life. Poor credit can keep you from buying a house, car, or even getting the job of your dreams. Maybe you are living a good life now by making good financial decisions, but past mistakes can bring down your score. Obtaining a free Experian credit report is vital to maintain or even improve your present financial status. By cleaning it up and maintaining it much like you maintain your bank account you will ensure that you have the best credit possible. Good credit can benefit you down the road, as you will be able to obtain good interest rates and high limits for credit lines.
